Foxtrot McGinty This is not only a sensational piece of Irish Hip-Hop. A Hidden Era meaningfully engages the weight of the troubles on an Irish youth's outlook, while developing an unparalleled Hip-Hop aesthetic that, at its best, sounds prescient of later 90s backpack rap, with its extensive use of sound collage and unique sampling palette. Favorite track: fantasy.

I thought this music was lost forever, until having recently re established a connection with an old pen pal in switzerland that is. he had all the songs on various tapes in his attic.

I did all the music with one turntable, vinyl and a tascam fourtrack tape recorder using "punch in" and pause button techniques (no samplers) to create loops and over dubs. the vocals were all recorded through a pair of headphones.

we sent the tapes to a few labels and got a great response.
played a few concerts. then hidden identity turned to the burgeoning belfast club scene as an mc. a few months later my other turntable arrived so I dipped into a seven year scratch hiatus, before returning to music production again.

I hope you enjoy this small piece of belfast hip-hop archeology as much as I have reliving it.
